Lonie Chaney Sr
Lonie Chaney Sr. was born May 25, 1953 in Roosevelt, Louisiana. He attended McCall High School and later married Joycelyn Chaney Toney. Lonie has 6 children, Alexander Griffin, Della D. Jerkins, Lonnie Chaney Jr., Lona Dancer, Linda Jackson, and Sandra Davis.
Some of his employment include: Dune Hotel, City of Las Vegas, City of North Las Vegas, City of Las Vegas Trolley , Clark County Assembly where he served for 10 years (1974to 1984 for two special and five regular sessions). He also served in the United States Armed Forces from 1958 to 1960. He enjoys singing, working out and bowling.
During his term in the Nevada Legislature, Lonie was a member of the Assembly Committee for Agriculture, Education, Environment and Public Resources, as well as Health and Welfare (Chairman 1977 and 1983). Throughout his life, Lonie has supported his community and fellow man; he has been a member of various organizations that include the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Westside Economic Development Commission, and The Task Force on Black Economics.
He has owned several businesses; Sunrise Travel Club, Westside Charter Services, Sunrise Jiffy Market, Womac Airport Shuttle Service, Chat N Chew, Penguin Club, Hickory Pit, Park 2000, C’s Cotton Club, and Sunrise Travel Club Drill Team just to name a few.
Lonie has received award recognition in his personal and professional life, including the United States Armed Forces Good Conduct Medal, Outstanding Politician’s Award, Outstanding minority Businessman Award, and Outstanding Community Award from Students with a Purpose.
